Up For Renewal

It’s almost time to renew our group life, accident and health policy with our HMO and although the existing package is already satisfactory, I am looking to improve on some benefits on our current contract. Addition of accredited service providers is one; removal of the “pre-exisitng condition” is another. I just hope I get these additional benefits at the lowest cost possible, if not the same as the current rates, as you know health care is getting more and more expensive these days.

One of the things that fall under my area of responsibility is the company’s insurance requirements – from commercial to vehicle to health.  It seems a pretty easy job but let me tell you, monitoring can be tedious.  I have to make sure that employees are covered under the right plan, vehicles properly insured, and properties aptly covered.  I am fortunate though to have a good insurance broker who  helps me in dealing with the insurance companies in terms of acquiring the best insurance coverage at affordable premiums, and coordinating with the insurance companies for our company’s behalf.  This reminds me to get in touch with them within the next few weeks as our health insurance is up for renewal by the 3rd quarter.

Laying Out Our Plans

How fast time flies. The second quarter has begun and before you know it, Christmas is just around the corner. Thinking about this stresses me a bit as project deadlines and contract renewals (e.g., office space rent, group personal accident and health insurance) draw near.  I suppose I should really begin planning and call on a major department meeting to lay out our plans for the next two quarters.

We have purchased several units of vehicles in the past couple of years. I have to admit that we got a pretty good deal (i.e., much lower interest rates) on the auto loans we have acquired.  I am not closing my doors though on any Auto Refinance opportunities that may come our way, especially if it means saving thousands of pesos that would boost the company’s bottom line figures.

Marketing is Key

How a product is marketed is crucial to its success.  This is why our company spends a significant amount of money, time, and effort to market every product to ensure its success.  One of the strategies we apply is promotion of our products through product presentations and conventions.  In these events, we use product displays (similar to trade show displays), lighting trusses, banner stands, etc. to expose our products.  We already have invested quite an amount on such materials, and we are expecting to invest more for the sake of marketing.

To Do: Purchase Requisition

We will be moving to a bigger and better office space in a couple of months thus our department is busy preparing for the transfer.  We had already purchased the critical office furniture and fixtures for the first phase of construction.  Only a few pieces, e.g., side tables, plant decors, blinds, are left for installation.  Although the second phase won’t require as much purchases as the first, there are still a few more items for requisition, some of which include one unit refrigerator for the executive office, a couple of coffee makers, one unit of fax machine, and a bigger safety volt.  I better submit the requisition by Monday before I take my one week vacation leave (yaya will be going home to her province to fetch her son).

Expanding My Role

In my work as Head of our Admin Department, I’ve never come across concerns regarding customers and investor relations, of any sort.  Though, my dad is the President and CEO of the company he’s still the one handling this responsibility.  We’ve always been told that we live and die by our customers, but more than just saying it, he proves by giving this his utmost attention.  I guess I still have a lot to learn before I even begin to fill a bigger role in our company’s operations.

We have several computer units at the office that need to be maintained every so often. We do not have an IT department yet so it is the admin assistant who troubleshoots problems which are computer related. When she can’t handle the problem any longer, we usually call our PC supplier for service. Honestly, I am not really enthusiastic about this particular supplier’s work so I’m currently scouting for a company who could meet my expectations better. So if you know of a good computers services company who does network monitoring and management, virus removal service, office relocation and setup, and other similar services, let me know.

Training Our Employees

Included in my plans for our department, and our company as a whole, this year is to provide our employees a few training programs that will truly help them develop not just as an employee, but as an individual. Thus, I have done web researches to find out what training programs are the best and which training consultants are the most reputable. One of the programs that sparked my interest is the Six Sigma. There are several providers of Six Sigma Consulting , I just have to look for a company which can offer the best and most suitable training program for our staff.

A Quickie Note

I am busy than usual here at the office, so I am not able to blog and bloghop as much as I want to. There’s barely two weeks left before the company shuts down its operations for the year, and I still have to do tons of stuff (which I haven’t done because of the internet. tsk tsk tsk!). I’m organizing our Christmas Party scheduled on December 17 at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino. I’m less tense now compared to last week as I was able to book the key suppliers already. I’ll be doing the polishing of the party program this week, and hopefully be 99% prepared early next week. On top of this, I am starting my year-end withholding tax adjustments, which is so tedious, I tell you, because we don’t have a computerized system yet. So imagine me doing the calculations with my excel sheet and my trusty Aurora calculator. I’ve papers and folders on my desk that still have to be looked in to, loads of documents to file, and suppliers to keep in touch with. So I think I better end this post at this moment, and say bye-bye . I hope to visit your blogs tonight (IF PLDT successfully installs the dsl connection withing the day).
