A Rough Day

I was really looking forward to this day as it will be my very first parent’s orientation (Manu is an incoming pre-nursery student). I was hoping to talk to my fellow TBS parents and bring home a few good photos of the meeting. Sad to say, I wasn’t able to take a single picture! Most probably because I had a lot on my mind even before the meeting began…

It started around 2am when I noticed that Manu’s yaya hasn’t come home yet from her supposed meeting with her husband. I specifically stated that she should be in by 11pm, and to find out that she wasn’t there just made me lose my cool. I tried to shrug it off by returning to sleep but then Manu has just woken up for his medicine because he was nursing a 37-38C-ish fever. I had to tend to his needs and demands (”Mommy, Pooh! Mommy, watch Pooh!”; “No! I choose”; “Mommy, feyd (afraid)”; and so on :D ) which were never-ending! Two and a half hours after, I finally got that needed rest.

I woke up feeling excited (because of the parent’s orientation) and stressed (because I had to do an early morning sermon to the maid) . I wanted to do away with negative feelings asap so I went and did the talk. Just as I was in the middle of the lecture, I noticed that my other helper (who goes home on a daily basis) hasn’t arrived yet. Great. Now I have to go to the parents’ orientation all by myself as I don’t want to leave sick little boy with his yaya alone in the house. Did I mention that the carpet cleaning company has just called to say it was on its way to our place to shampoo our sofa and dining chairs? (This reminds me to have my roman blinds changed to wood blinds) Stress! I have barely an hour to get pretty :D I was still lucky that I was able to leave the condo 15 minutes before the orientation started.

I arrived at the school just in time. I still had a few more to put on my favorite blush, in fact :D . Anyway, we were led to the older preschool classroom where the 30 minute orientation was held. I liked the way they opened the meeting - they had us sing the “Hello! Hello!” song (which by now I know by heart). The following discussions just went by and by 30 minutes, we were out and making chika :D . I really hate myself for not taking pictures of the moms I’ve become friends with, and of the nursery classroom. It was adorable since the room was full of pictures of the kids and their families, the learning centers were properly set up, and the materials were already in place. Anyhoo, no sense in crying over spilled milk so I just promised myself to take photos, as if my digicam’s battery life would not die, on Manu’s first day at school.

Sadly, Manu’s pediatrician confirmed, during our earlier check-up, that he has the flu, advised us to observe him until Monday, and if the fever still persists by lunchtime that day, we should have him undergo CBC test (to rule out dengue and typhoid fever). I pray that what he has is just the flu. No mom wants his child to go through anything more serious than the flu. (Update: as of the moment, his temperature is normal. Thank you, Lord.)

So. This means that Manu will be attending school not on the school’s official first day. Sayang, but never mind because what’s most important is that he gets back to his normal healthy self.

The little boy’s calling me now. “Feyd” daw sya :D

Only the Best for Our Kid

Manu’s Little Gym ends next week and we’re already contemplating whether we should enroll him for another quarter or to already consider a playschool environment for him (this is why we tried the summer camp). Granted that our son is only 2 year 1 month old today we are already pondering about this and the other forms of investment we will be making for him in the coming years: playschool, pre-school, grade school – the list goes on and on!!. We never thought that being parents was this hectic – you’re already thinking years ahead. There’s this “want” to give anything and everything you can possibly can so our boy is well equipped for a bright future. But to do that amidst the rising prices of gasoline and commodities is really a challenge. Heck, we might even need to consult someone who can offer investment management advice just so we can balance our checkbooks. But I guess that’s really the sacrifice we give for our children so they in turn can give it to their children.

About

It looks like you are someone who’s very down to earth when it comes to love. You tend to be pretty realistic about what makes a lifelong partnership work. You understand the value of forging a love based on friendship, respect and shared values. In fact, often your relationships develop out of friendships and your lover tends to be your best friend. Marriage and children are probably central to your life. As far as you’re concerned, a true relationship is one that matures with time and work. Just make sure you keep the spark of passion alive.

Emotions

You feel most comfortable in a solid relationship based on trust. Although there’s always room for a little passion too. Right now you couldn’t imagine a better place to be. You’re positively glowing with happiness and feeling very secure. Just how you like it.

Perceptions

Home life is really important to you. It is the focus of all the love that you have to give. For you, love is about feeling completely relaxed and comfortable in your own space. Your choice of animal shows that you are a very loyal person. You like to look out for the one you love and have very strong protective instincts.

Aspirations

Love is cuddling up on the sofa with a glass of wine or lounging in bed with the Sunday papers. The physical side of love is essential to you. Touching really helps you to connect with the one you love. You dream of growing old with the one you love. A strong friendship is the secret for a true lovematch. You’re a really social animal (really?!?). It’s really important to you to be with someone who makes you laugh (so true. gats’ sense of humor was what made me fall in love with him. yihee). Having fun is what keeps the magic alive. Once the spark of passion has died down, this is what will truly endure.

Is it preggo season or is it preggo season? Two of my blogging buddies, Peachy and Mich have been visited by the stork and I just feel so happy for them! This makes me want to have another baby, though not this soon (maybe in the next year or two). This time, I am hoping it would be a girl. I am actually not just hoping, I am determined to make it a girl! Why? Because it is more fun to shop for girls’ baby clothes! (Babaw!)

Moving from one place to another is just a drag. I remember when we moved into our condo a couple of years back. We literally had to ask all of my husband’s household help and drivers to assist us in the packing and moving of our stuff. I know we should have ask for “professional” help but my husband insisted that we do it ourselves since he didn’t want to entrust our belongings to people beside those we know. He’d recall how easy it was to do this in the US as the professional movers there are really adept in this sort of work. There are some helpful moving tips from professional movers, more accurately New York movers – such as start early and staying relaxed, which we never did. I should have read this way back then.

My To Do List This Week

It has been a long week of vacation for me (as I was already on leave since Monday) but I still haven’t gone through half of my “to-do’s” before the week ends.  I better start ticking off some of these before the little boy’s yaya goes on her vacation on Tuesday:

  1. Enroll Manu at The Bridge’s Summer Camp - done 3/19
  2. Go to derma for wart removal - done 3/19
  3. Go to OB for regular check-up - cancelled; dra. dancel won’t resume clinic until next week
  4. Attend Mark’s Hi-lo class on Tuesday and Thursday; Annies’ on Saturday - yey! was able to attend the tuesday class!  unfortunately, the thursday class was cancelled
  5. Go to Tips n’ Toes for a free foot spa (courtesy of my mom;  I think I’ll also be having my manicure done too as I am already there)
  6. Visit sites on my blogroll that I haven’t visited for awhile
  7. Check out a website, which supposedly is the #1 online casinos reviews for gamblers, for a relative who is currently into online gambling
  8. File bills and other important documents

Learning to Love Wine

We have several bottles of wine in our home, but not one has been opened since we got them from our in-laws around two and a half years ago. The reason? Well, I simply do not appreciate it – not as of the moment at least. Considering that my husband’s family are wine drinkers, I should have at least learned to drink by now. But I haven’t. I want to though, and so I tried watching a few shows on the Lifestyle Channel about wines. I also took a few pointers from a wine-lover friend. Although I learned a thing or two about this drink, I still was not converted. I guess I have to take a few sips every now and then for me to begin a relationship with wine. And a lot more pointers, perhaps? I recently knew of a video entitled, “How to Get Your Wine Palate Trained”. I haven’t seen it yet but it sure sounds interesting to a novice like me. There are also other videos specifically targeted for beginners such as “How to Taste Wine”, “Wine Glasses, How Do They Affect Wine?”, and “Decanting Wine, What Does It Do?”. If I want to be a serious wine drinker I better start viewing these soon. You should too.

Just recently my husband saw a site specifically targeted for Mac users – Mac Poker Online. This website is not really a venue for playing poker but rather it evaluates other Poker sites, which is a good thing since you might want to know where you’re putting your money-in in the first place. Would you believe that some online sites have been in operation since 1996? It would seem that Pacific Poker and other online poker pioneers have been around for more than a decade already. Others like Fulltilt Poker will even let you chat with your playmates – probably to simulate a “bluff” since all of you will be facing computer monitors instead of a human face to get expressions. I didn’t believe it was this big until I saw these facts.

Now I understand why some friends have already started having poker nights. For us though, since we don’t really play much poker, we stick to “Pusoy” or “Pusoy Dos” to pass the time. :D
