From Joey and Abie

Joey and Abie, thanks from the bottom of my heart. Joey, I truly appreciate your considering me as a friend despite the short time we’ve known each other.

Finding Old Friends

I vividly remember that one morning in 1986 when me and a few classmates were told to stand up during the entire class because we came in minutes late after the morning break. I recall that after having our regular 20-minute break, some of my friends called us to the playground beside the school canteen. I remember me being hesitant at that time since everybody was already running back to class, while we were fooling around the play area. At that time, I felt I had to join my friends, whatever the consequences may be (reason being that I feared that they would reject me if I did not join them). Good thing that the punishment was just us being asked to stand up (though it was embarrassing J ), and not suspension.

Every time I remember this particular episode in my life, I wonder where those friends of mine are now, 22 years later. One of them I still have contact with, thanks to the internet’s search engines. One unique and interesting search application I came across with a few days ago was Spock. It lets you find people by typing in his or her name, email, or even a personal attribute. Let’s say if you can’t remember the name of that drop-dead gorgeous guy you met last night but recall that he’s an engineer, you could just type in the word “engineer” and Spock lists all the people under the category. The result will also let you know where else your “engineer” can be found by displaying links to his blog, myspace page, etc.  Cool eh?  With Spock, finding my old friends isn’t impossible as it used to be. Now if I could just remember their names… :D
